TRADING ADDICTION TREATMENT IN OKLAHOMA
Oklahoma remains one of the few states without a broad, state-regulated retail and online sports-betting market, despite recurring legislative efforts to establish wagering rules and capture the associated tax revenue. At the same time, Oklahoma has taken an increasingly aggressive position against unregulated offshore gambling: Attorney General Gentner Drummond joined a 50-state coalition in 2025 calling for federal action against illegal offshore gaming, describing its lack of licensing, consumer protections, age verification, and tax compliance as serious concerns. That stance has now extended directly into the prediction-market debate, with Drummond and 40 other attorneys general telling the CFTC in May 2026 that sports-related prediction contracts effectively function as sportsbooks and should remain under state authority.
The prediction-market loophole therefore presents a particularly difficult challenge for the Sooner State. Although Oklahoma has resisted conventional online sports betting, residents can encounter federally regulated prediction-market contracts that allow wagering on outcomes such as game winners, point spreads, and player statistics—the very types of markets Oklahoma’s attorney general has argued are indistinguishable from traditional sports wagers. Unless federal policy ultimately changes to place sports-event contracts under state gambling jurisdiction, Oklahoma may have to confront the reality that adults can access betting-like products even without a conventional state sportsbook framework. That creates a compelling public-health argument for expanding problem-gambling and trading-addiction treatment resources, particularly as sports-focused prediction markets continue to develop.
Until Oklahoma makes that investment—or as a complement to any future state initiative—Prediction Market Help (PMH) is working to identify and scrutinize virtual treatment programs and outpatient providers that claim to address gambling, compulsive trading, and prediction-market-related problems. The goal is to help people and families from Oklahoma City and Tulsa to Muskogee, Yukon, and communities throughout the Sooner State distinguish potentially appropriate professional resources from providers whose services may not be suited to these emerging concerns. Recommended treatment options are presented in the sections below.
