About PMH
Helping Americans Take Control of Problematic Prediction Market Trading
Prediction markets can be engaging, but they can also encourage compulsive behavior if people become overly invested in constantly tracking outcomes and placing trades. Because markets update in real time and often involve financial rewards, users may feel pressure to check prices frequently or make impulsive decisions based on short-term fluctuations rather than careful judgment.
It’s important to be aware of the signs of prediction market addiction, such as spending excessive time or money on markets, neglecting responsibilities, or feeling anxious when unable to participate. Setting limits on time and spending, taking breaks, and treating prediction markets as a form of entertainment rather than a reliable source of income can help maintain a healthy balance.
What We Do
PMH serves a three-part role in helping address the emerging public health challenges associated with prediction markets. First, we independently evaluate virtual counseling platforms that offer treatment for gambling-related disorders, helping individuals identify services that may be appropriate for addressing compulsive prediction market trading and other problematic betting behaviors. Second, PMH is available to partner with U.S. state governments, Canadian provincial governments, and regulatory agencies to develop population-specific educational resources for prediction market harm prevention. We also help connect public-sector stakeholders with vetted virtual counseling providers, serving as an independent intermediary that provides objective information about mental and behavioral health services so funding decisions are informed by evidence rather than provider marketing claims. Third, PMH works with prediction market operators to develop and strengthen Responsible Use strategies designed to promote safer participation, encourage early intervention, and improve access to support for users experiencing gambling-related harm.
Individuals or those concerned about a loved one’s use of prediction markets can review treatment options here. Providers, government reps, regulators, and operators can reach out by connecting to PMH via META.
